Monarca Montessori Philosophy

Your child's early years are a crucial period in which they build the skills needed in life. It is therefore considered to be the most important phase of development that shapes the adult and consequently the society of tomorrow.

In many countries, the ability to speak more than one language is considered a critical part of a good education. In the United States, bilingual, immersion and dual language programs are changing the educational landscape of schools, and communities around the world and the approach of education has gradually shifted from monolingualism to the goal of bilingualism.

At Monarca we value not just the benefits of bilingualism, but also the cognitive development advantages that this creates in the child. To fulfill our mission we strongly believe that by following the Montessori Method of education we are helping children foster their natural desire of learning.

"Free the child's potential, and you will transform him into the world"

Mission Statement

Our mission is to create a self-directed learning environment in which children build a foundation of knowledge essential for a lifetime of learning, with the goal of helping students become proficient Spanish speakers.

We will accomplish this mission by:

  • Using the Montessori method to foster independence and the love of learning.
  • Implementing a full Spanish immersion model during the child's early ages.
  • Fostering students' appreciation of their own and other cultures to expand the student's global perspective of the world.

Vision Statement

To provide high-quality educational experiences during the child's early years while supporting academic and linguistic development in two languages. In Monarca, we value each child's effort and abilities as our goal is to see children thrive on their own learning path. We strive to be a positive and safe place for children and their families by nurturing a respectful community.

Montessori Curriculum

We offer children five key areas of study

Practical Life

Practical Life

The exercises of Practical Life are materials normally encountered in everyday living experiences such as cleaning, sweeping, pouring, dressing, hand washing, setting up a table, plant and animal care. The exercises fall into four major categories: Care of the Self, Care of the Environment, Grace and Courtesy, and Control of Movement.

Sensorial

Sensorial

The purpose of Sensorial work is for the child to acquire clear, conscious information and to be able to make classifications in their environment. The child, to Montessori, is a "sensorial explorer". These materials are precisely constructed and they are powerful tools for supporting the child's mathematical mind.

Mathematics

Mathematics

The child's mathematical mind is developed with the use of concrete math learning materials. As children progress through the Montessori math framework, the materials become more abstract, as students internalize more of the knowledge scaffolded by the materials.

Language

Language

Young children are introduced to vocabulary and sound games to set the stage for pre-reading and reading skills. This area is based on phonetic awareness. Children work through specific hands-on and tactile language materials. Montessori activities, and specifically immersion help them develop stronger language skills in reading, writing, vocabulary and communication skills.

Culture

Culture

Children are exposed to geography, botany, history and science at an early age. Children gain an awareness of the natural world around them by exploring countries, customs, music, climate, language, animal classification, plants, life cycles and ecology.

Art and creativity is encouraged across all curriculum because this is one of the many ways children express themselves and develop their fine motor skills. In the Montessori environment, we provide open-ended art activities that help children explore and use their creativity.

Program Overview

At Monarca Montessori Preschool, we serve children ages 3 years to 6 years old.

Oruguitas Program

Oruguitas (3 to 4½ years old)

The teacher conducts all individual and group lessons in Spanish, children will learn by demonstration, repetition and songs. The children engage in purposeful Montessori work in areas of Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Mathematics, and Cultural Studies.

*The Oruguitas program is for children who take a nap after lunch.

Mariposas Program

Mariposas (4½ to 6 years old)

Older children in the environment continue working on their Montessori curriculum in more depth. Since they are able to concentrate for a longer period of time, they further explore their environment through language and math.
